![]() Kemah, TX Happy Halloween. Get your spook on. I love this night. A little difficult when it's on a Tuesday, but nonetheless. Doesn't matter as much now, my preference is to sit in and watch scary movies. I'm talking about black and white, grave-robbing, God-complexes. I'm talking about Frankentstein and Son of Frankenstein. Man, 1976. Nothing chilled me more than that stitched and bolted visage of Karloff staring back at me from the back of a comic book with that naughty and beautiful full-length poster ad for Vampirella. Maybe it's the black and white. Maybe it's the slow pacing. Yeah, you can outrun him, but he'll eventually catch up because you can't take your eyes off of him. Only two other movies in my mind scared me even close to that when I was a kid. 1)Trilogy of Terror. Specifically, that damned tribal doll that tormented Karen Black. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. You've seen it. Those teeth... 2)The Wizard of Oz. Specifically, the Winged Monkeys. Yep. I remember very clearly leaving the room under the pretense of a potty break when they were on television. I didn't want my dad to see me scared. Damn monkeys. | |
